Appliqué is a wonderful choice for
fleece or other fabrics where a lower stitch count design results in better registration of outlines and details. Most designs are digitized for stock purposes. That means the designer had to gear the registration of outlines and fills to a typical, woven fabric. It would be impossible to make the design perform the same for all fabrics, because every fabric differs in the amount of push/pull it will cause in the design. This is why fleece can be so challenging to stitch on. Proper stabilization with a good cutaway is important, but choosing a design that is appliqué can be beneficial as well. |

Another advantage to appliqué
designs is they use less thread. Also, an embroidery project can be specifically tailored to an outfit by coordinating choice of fabric. If that sweatshirt is going to accompany a pair of plaid shorts, then coordinate with a matching fabric for the appliqué area. |

Happy Trails, right, is a great example of a
design that is lower in stitch count and perfect for fleece. The windshield can be appliquéd with a sheer fabric, while a colorful, sturdy twill is perfect for the roadster.
